JOY FEARNHEAD

Joy was born in Tiensin, China, October 9th in the year???. Well, if the empire had not fallen, she would have been born in the 265th year of the Ching dynasty. She went to school in Tiensin and Hankow. The family spent their summers in Pen Ta Ho in the north. One year, when the Yangtze overflowed its banks, the family had to evacuate to Shanghai where Joy attended the Shanghai-American school for six months.

Joy started painting in grade school and is a multimedia artist working in oil, watercolor, pastels and colored pencils. The soft waftng colors in her work reflect the early Chinese training. She has been a member of The Seniors Art Group since Lois Goebel first got the group together in 1982.

In 1992 Joy took a three-week trip baek to her roots in China with four other members of the Art Group. They visited six cities: Shanghai, Sooehow, Hangehow, Guilin, Xian and Peking (or Beijing as it is now called). Needless to say, it was a remarkable experienee. And although she didn't get to Nanking, where her brother is buried. We'll do that on our next trip Joy.

Joy has lived in Hawaii 37 years, presently in Paradise Park She likes traveling on ships and symphonic music, both together if possible.
